NANNY LUBIS - FOUNDER (1956 - 1993)
November 24, 1926 certainly constituted one of many happy days for the couple Ir. Abdul Hadi Lubis and Siti Nurida Siregar. On that day, the second daughter of their four children was born and named Nanny Anistasia. Only they might never think that Nanny some day in the future would become an important figure in the world of dancing and fitness in Indonesia.
Nanny’s formal education started with ELS (equivalent to present Elementary School), then to MULO (Secondary School), and continued to SMT (currently known as Kanisius Senior High School). Further she obtained a chance to have her education at the University of Indonesia at the Faculty of Law and Literature. During school, she was known as a super active girl and was deeply involved in various sport activities, discus hurling being her favorite.
She became engaged in the world of ballet when she was twelve years of age. At that time, she was trained under the guidance of Mrs. Meyer, a Ballet teacher from Holland. Seeing her talent and great will, Mrs. Meyer then advised her to open her own ballet school. And apparently she followed her advice by establishing NAMARINA in 1956.
In line with her ever greatly growing attention towards ballet and fitness, she visited various corners of the world to advance her knowledge in both the fields. She went to Holland, England (Royal Academy of Dancing, London), Singapore (Taylor Beauty & Body Culture), Japan, Germany (the Lola Rugge Ballet Schule, Hamburg), and the United States. There, she studied and obtained licenses both as a ballet and fitness teacher.
Beside her activities in the world of ballet and fitness, Nanny also had the opportunity to lead her career as an announcer in Radio Republic of Indonesia for several years. She resigned from her position as NAMARINA required her greater attention.
During her lifetime, Nanny Lubis received various awards both from the government of Republic of Indonesia and prominent organizations both from domestic as well as foreign countries. The following are some of the awards she received :
1982 - Fighting Veteran for Independence of the Republic of Indonesia
1982 - One of Indonesian Women who was included in the book “The World Who’s Who Women”
1985 - Woman Pioneer of Indonesian Fitness
Nanny Lubis not only demonstrated her dedication towards the art and fitness, but has also given her affection and knowledge to all of us. In view of this, we are resolved to continue her ideals, namely to build a sound nation and to foster community appreciation towards the art.
